Instructions

    • 1

Cut out two red 8-inch circles, two green 8-inch circles and two batting circles each 7 3/4 inches. Then cut four silver squares, 1 inch by 1 inch. Lastly, cut one 4-inch piece of each of the colors of binding.

    • 2

Sew one silver square onto each of the colored circles by placing the right sides of the material together and sewing across one side of the square along the edge of the circle. This will be the top of your potholder. It should look like a Christmas ball ornament.

    • 3

Place one ball facing down, a piece of batting and another ball facing up in a pile. Make the two silver squares meet at the top. Pin them together this way. Pin the 4-inch binding of the opposite color of the ball just inside the top of the silver squares in a loop. This will be the loop to hang your potholders. It should look like the hanger on a Christmas ball.

    • 4

Use green binding on the red ball and red binding on the green ball. Start at the to next to the silver square and pin on the binding. Go around the ball to the other side of the silver square and cut the excess binding.

    • 5

Sew the potholder all the way around the ball near the inside edge of the binding. When you get to the silver square, sew up one side, across the top and down the other side. You should now be where you started. Go back and forth once to lock in your stitch. When you sewed across the top of the square, you should have sewed in your loop and the potholder should be done.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can decorate the potholders with fabric paint or by cutting out designs from other material and whip stitching it on before you sew it together.
