Keeping Teachers Motivated

Teachers are supposed to keep their students motivated. However, who keeps the teacher motivated? If a teacher is unmotivated, they loose interest in their jobs and students. It’s the job of students, co-workers, friends and family to keep teachers motivated. After all, teaching is a very rewarding career. Lack of motivation shouldn’t bring that career to an end.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk to teachers. Whether you’re a friend, co-worker, family member or student, talk to the teacher and tell them how proud you are of them or some positive way they’ve influenced your life.

    • 2

Pay attention in class. Students can keep teachers motivated by paying attention and doing their best in class.

    • 3

Hold meetings for teachers to vent. Schools have regular meetings, but teachers need a chance to vent and share positive stories to motivate each other.

    • 4

Give a gift. Teachers are constantly giving, but sometimes receive nothing in return. A token of appreciation or something to say you’re proud of how they work goes a long way in keeping them motivated.

    • 5

Provide a good work environment. Teachers must be in a positive environment, with plenty of encouragement. This includes benefits, salary, classroom space and supplies, and employee picnics or parties from time to time.

    • 6

Send teachers to workshops to encourage growth. Being around teachers outside their immediate environment provides more feedback and inspiration, which helps motivate teachers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Everyone should do what they can to show their appreciation for the teachers in their lives.

  • Don’t go overboard on the encouragement. Otherwise, it may sound fake and be taken the wrong way.
