How to Make Your Own Body Wax

How to Make Your Own Body Wax thumbnail
Sugar waxing was traditionally used in India to remove body hair.

Making your own body wax at home has never been simpler, or cheaper. Homemade body wax can be used on nearly any area of the face and body, including the legs, armpits, face and bikini-line. Sugaring is one of the most popular methods of removing unwanted body hair. Sugar waxing works in the same way traditional waxing does. A thick, sugar mixture is applied to the skin and then pulled off quickly with a cloth strip, pulling the hairs out of the hair follicles. Sugar body wax is a water-soluble mixture, making it easier than traditional wax to remove from the skin. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Put 6 ounces of white granulated sugar in a medium-size saucepan. Set the temperature on the stovetop to medium high.

    • 2

Stir the sugar continuously with a wooden spoon to prevent the sugar from burning. Continue to stir until the sugar comes to a rapid boil.

    • 3

Allow the sugar to boil for two full minutes. When the sugar has reached its desired temperature, it will become gold in color.

    • 4

Add 6 ounces of honey to the melted sugar. Stir the sugar and honey together while still on medium high heat.

    • 5

Cut a fresh lemon in half. Squeeze one half of the lemon into the saucepan with the sugar and honey mixture. Continue to stir the ingredients.

    • 6

Remove the saucepan from the stovetop. Pour the melted mixture onto a dry, clean cotton towel. Allow 2 minutes for the mass of wax to cool.

    • 7

Knead the mass of wax until it become golden-yellow in color. Store the body wax in an air-tight container.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you wish to use your homemade body wax, fill a bowl with hot water. Place a smaller glass bowl filled with body wax inside the larger bowl. This will melt the body wax to a comfortable temperature.

  • Apply the body wax to the skin with a Popsicle stick. Place the cotton strip on the wax and pull in the opposite direction of hair growth.

  • Add 10 drops of an essential oil of your choice to the sugar mixture. This will give the body wax a soothing scent. Vanilla, lavender and rose scents are particularly appealing when added to homemade body wax.
