Learn how to hook up an LCD projector to a computer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • LCD Projector
  • Computer
  • Power outlets
  • VGA\RGB cable
  1. Step 1

If you are using a desktop computer and want to keep your original monitor and have the projector as an additional screen you will need a video card that supports dual monitors. If you are simply replacing your monitor with the projector screen then your existing video card should be fine. If you are using a laptop you will need to find the display out. Some computers, like a macbook will require a DVI to VGA adapter.

  2. Step 2

Connect one end of your VGA cable to your desktop computer's video card or your laptop's display out.

  3. Step 3

Take a look at your projector and find the VGA or RGB IN port.

  4. Step 4

Connect the other end of your VGA cable to the VGA or RGB IN port.

  5. Step 5

Plug in your projector and power it on.

  6. Step 6

Now, take a closer look at your projector. Many projectors have multiple inputs on the side. Some common ones are RGB1, RGB2, and Video. Each of these inputs can have a different source such as another computer or a DVD player. Each of these inputs can be toggled between so that the projector will display that particular source. Press the input button to toggle the sources until your projector shows the name of the input you plugged your computer in to.

  7. Step 7

You will now need to return to your computer and go into your display settings. If you are using a laptop or a dual monitor video card you will have a few options. Go through your display settings and select if you want the projector to display whatever is displaying on your main monitor or if you want it to become a secondary display that adds onto your existing monitor.

  8. Step 8

You will likely also have to adjust the resolution in your display settings on your computer to make the image appear correct on the projector.

  9. Step 9

You're done! Enjoy your new big screen display!
