It doesn't take long for your little bundle of joy to become a fearless explorer. Here are a few tips to help protect your ever curious child.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Always keep a hand on your baby when they are hanging around above ground, even if you don't think they can fall off. This means beds, couches, chairs, and diaper changing tables. If there is a strap, use it - even if it's just a quick "sit here so I can put my hair up" - strap them in or lay them on the ground in a safe place.

  2. Step 2

Install gates at the top and bottom of stairs. It is best to bolt them into the wall so the gates don't topple over with pressure. With windows it is best to install a window guard. If you are renting, check if your landlord will have one installed for you. Keep the area around the gates and windows clear. Children find ways to stack and climb.

  3. Step 3

Keep doors and windows securely locked. Add a latch at the top of the door to insure little hands don't reach up and and unlock it.

  4. Step 4

Baby walkers are cute but dangerous. The baby walkers can tip over and your baby can tumble down stairs or walk right out the door. Stationary activity centers give the same exercise and they have great safe play toys attached for your child's enjoyment.

  5. Step 5

Make sure to strap your child into his stroller every time. Also, keep the weight evenly distributed. Heavy diaper bags will make the stroller topple over when you let go.

  6. Step 6

Keep baby bouncers on the floor, never on a raised surfaces.

  7. Step 7

If you have multiple children, chances are you have bunk-beds. Children under the age of 6 need to be on the bottom bunk. Also safety rails need to be in place and used.

Tips & Warnings
  • Your baby depends on you to keep them safe and to teach them safety habits. Children will fall and accidents will happen. Stay calm and if medical attention is needed call 9-1-1 or your local emergency room.
