Women's Bible Study
Women's Bible Study

Christian women who are stay at home wives and/or mothers can sometimes feel isolated from adult interaction. Starting a women’s bible study is a good way to fellowship with other Christian women and share some of your daily struggles with women in your same position. It is also a good way to keep yourself accountable to study God’s Word consistently.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, you will need to find a venue. Are you willing to host the women’s bible study in your own home? If not, ask some of the other women in your church whether they would be willing to play hostess.

  2. Step 2

Second, you will need to find a leader for the group. It is important that someone be in charge of leading the discussion at each meeting. This role could be filled by one person or the discussion leader could be alternated each time you meet.

  3. Step 3

Next you will need to decide when and how often to meet. Weekly is usually good, but bounce the idea off of a few women to see what works for the majority of them. Early mornings are usually best for mothers as this doesn’t impinge on children’s naptimes.

  4. Step 4

Determine how you will deal with childcare. Hopefully, the hostess has a space for the children to play (such as a basement), but some supervision will be necessary. Often it is easiest to alternate watching the kids amongst the members of the bible study so that everyone has a chance to participate.

  5. Step 5

Finally, you will need to choose a pre-formatted bible study or simply pick a book of the bible to walk through. If the discussion leader(s) have little theological training, a bible study program/guide might be a better option. Check the catalogs of Christian bookstores for ideas or ask your Pastor.

  6. Step 6

Once all of the technicalities have been decided on, meet with your Pastor to get his approval of your study material. If he approves you can start inviting the women in your church to join. If you are a member of a large church, ask your Pastor if you may post an invitation in your church bulletin.

  7. Step 7

A women’s bible study is also a great time to reach out to some of the women in your neighborhood who are not believers. Invite women you know in person or pass out invitations in your neighbor’s mailboxes. Many stay at home moms get lonely and may welcome an opportunity to meet with other stay at home moms, even for a bible study.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask some of the older women in your church for guidance.
  • Choose your study guides carefully.
  • Consider if snacks should be available when meeting.
  • Starting your own study is a big job. Be sure you are prepared.

on 10/18/2008 Home bible studies are a boon to society. The more the better. Secular influence on society is getting heavier and starting to wane on standards which are essential to successful cohesiviness. Great article.
