The eyes are the windows to our souls, but are they the windows to our health, too? An alternative medicine practitioners who study Iridology would have you believe so. Iridology is the practice in which an Iridologist "reads" a patient's iris with the attempt to diagnose systematic ailments and/or inflammations of that person's entire body. Iridologists employ iris charts, or iridology charts, which have been developed over the last 150+ years, to "map" each iris into multiple parts. Each part of the iris, according to Iridologists, corresponds with a specific area of the human body.

For example, Section 8 of the iris corresponds with the human arm and hand. If an Iridologist notices cloudiness in Section 8 of a person's left iris, supposedly the person's left hand and/or arm are ailing in some way.

Clouding of the iris according to Iridology, is indicative of excess mucus in the body, because Iridologists surmise that mucus is a thick, clear, greenish, or gray fluid that "clouds" human cavities and passages, such as a body's sinuses. Just as mucus clouds a human cavity, so the person's iris may appear cloudy during times of excessive mucus build up.

Although there are no documented medical methods to lighten a person's iris, many people experienced iris discoloration after employing specific methods. This tutorial will define the methods that some people have found to lighten their irises.

Things You'll Need:

  • refer to specific steps

    Herbal Methods:

Some claim that herbs affect an iris' hue. Although there is absolutely no scientific proof to substantiate such claims, there are reports that one person has had success with such herbs as oregano and garlic. Additionally, others claim that an all-fiber diet will lighten their irises. And, finally, other people insist that candida, which is a type of fungal yeast found in the body, will impact the shading of their irises.

    Chemical Methods and Body Pollution:

Your body can only be good as what you put into it, and your body will react, sometimes subtly, other times violently, to what is ingested. This sentiment especially applies to the chemicals people ingest.

Because chemicals are often toxic to the human body, many people insist on ingesting only organic foods and supplements. An apple that grew in an orchard that was regularly dusted with pesticide powders may cause a person's stomach to become ill. Iridologists would have you believe that this person who is ill from pesticide-treated apples, would also display fluctuations in her iris' appearance. Body pollutants, such as the residual pesticide on the apple, affect the appearance of the iris. One of the ways that the person's eye may fluctuate in appearance is in its hue. Nobody is claiming that a body pollutant will change a person's eye from brown to green; rather the hue, or shading, of the iris may be lightened or darkened, depending on the individual's chemical makeup.

Chemical combinations that specifically affect iris shade are not known, or even proven for that matter. Similar to every person having a unique fingerprint, every body has a unique and personal chemical makeup. Therefore, pin-pointing the exact chemical that triggers a side-effect (such as iris discoloration) in one person is practically impossible. At this time, scientists do not have the technology to make such determinations. But this lack of technology does not mean that the evidence does not exist.

Most specifically, one source lists quinine as a drug that has been linked to hue abnormalities in the iris. For additional information on this, refer to the following URL: http://www.mrvitaherbs.com/shop/custom.asp?recid=8)

  3. Step 3

    Detoxification Methods:

According to some sources, the health of one's colon and digestive system is linked to discoloration of a person's iris. More specifically, the source states that "the darkness in the colon and organ area of the iris will also lighten as cleansing and rebuilding take place." (For additional information on this, refer to the following URL: http://www.mrvitaherbs.com/shop/custom.asp?recid=8) Therefore, the suggestion is made that colonics and detoxification programs will lend to lightened iris, after the body's many pollutants and toxins are flushed from the system.

Tips & Warnings
  • Lightening your eye color in both digital and hard-copy photographs is also an alternative, if you are looking for a less permanent option. Contact a photograph manipulation professional for this option. They are able to work seemingly magic on photographs of anyone.
  • In no way should a reader attempt any suggestions made within this article without first consulting with their eye care professional.
  • Some claim that Iridology is a hoax and "nonsense."
