For many people, breakfast is a cup of coffee on the run. But even if you're in a hurry, you can make healthy choices and eat a breakfast that will provide you with essential nutrients and lasting energy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • English Muffins
  • Bananas
  • Fruit Juices
  • Peanut Butter
  • Whole-grain Bread

Step1
Take breakfast with you - stash a whole-grain bagel or muffin, a hard-boiled egg, yogurt or a small jar of peanut butter and some fruit in your bag and take it with you to work.
Step2
Shop in advance. Buy fresh-squeezed juices in small containers, whole-grain unsweetened cereal that just needs hot water added, eggs to hard-boil. This way you'll have breakfast ready every morning to take along to work, or you can eat it in the car.
Step3
Be creative. Take along a slice of leftover pizza, or pack up a leftover casserole.
Step4
Buy breakfast on your way to work if you don't have time to pack up a breakfast or eat before leaving the house. Check out stores and cafés near your house and en route to work. Check their hours and pick ones that will be open early. Avoid buying sweet pastries and doughnuts, which provide empty calories and will set you up for a massive energy slump.
Step5
Opt for low-sugar, high-fiber, high-protein choices. Choose a bagel and cream cheese, a whole-grain fruit-juice-sweetened muffin, scrambled eggs on an English muffin or a slice of quiche.
Step6
Read labels on the popular breakfast and energy bars. Many are very high in sugar and not as healthy as they appear.
Step7
Eat something in the morning even if you are not very hungry. A banana or apple is a healthy snack, or you could have a slice of whole-grain toast. These are quick and easy to eat at home, take along or buy on the run.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid skipping breakfast if you are trying to lose weight. It will not help you lose weight any faster, and in fact, you may end up eating a larger lunch to compensate.

on 11/1/2007 You can make french toast the night before or even make up a bunch and freeze them. When you are ready to eat them, just pop them in the toaster. Then, for a little protein you can quickly scramble up an egg or just put some PB on it. You can make a delicious smoothie for breakfast as well. The night before cut up several cups of fruit. Bananas, strawberries, blueberries. Whatever. Make sure some of them are sweet. They will be your sweetener. In your blender put milk, fruit, and some ice and blend it up. It tastes GREAT!! If you really need some sweetener, that's good for you do not use artificial sweeteners, they are really bad for you. Instead use, Stevia. You can find it in just about any grocery store in powder or liquid form. Its really good for you and less is more! Enjoy!

on 11/1/2007 They have found that energy drinks aren't really that good for you. Try to stay away from all these HIGHLY caffienated drinks. Instead try using ginko biloba and ginseng. These taken each morning will help with you to be awake and alert naturally! Also, try not to skip breakfast. There are tons of things you can do that do not require any prep and are still healthy. Fruit is always a good thing. Also lowfat yogurt, you can put a little granola in it as well to make it really tasty! Toast is also really easy and fast and is very good with these other things I mentioned. If you are trying to lose weight and skip meals to do so, your body will go into "survival mode." It starts to hang on to whatever fat storage it might have to help you "stay alive" instead of losing weight you might even gain weight! If you find you just don't have time, take something quick, or prep the night before.

on 11/1/2007 You can also bake some potatoes. Store them in the fridge the night before. The morning of, cube the potatoes and put in a frying pan with a little margarine or cooking spray. Once browned add eggs. Scramble the eggs with the potatoes. Add seasonings. i.e. salt, pepper, onion powder or seasoning salt. You can even cut up veggies the night before and add. They are better for you if you do not cook them. Once this is done, wrap in a warm tortilla. I've found if you use the gordita-sized tortillas once wrapped can fit two into a sandwich bag. These can be taken to work, and just popped in the microwave. Or made the night before. VERY GOOD! You can also add your fav. breakfast meat to the pan when cooking. My husband likes to put fry sauce on his. (ketchup and mayo) ENJOY!

on 11/1/2007 I oftentimes make waffles. break them into the four squares, put 2 in a storage bag, then freeze them. Prep is easy. Just pop them in the toaster, then you can spread PB on them. You can do the same thing with pancakes. Just make them small enough to fit in a storage bag. Then, that morning, I'll pop them in the toaster or microwave. Cook up a couple scrambled eggs. When the pancake is warm, I'll cut it into bite sized pieces then mix with the eggs in the pan and add a little margarine. Then, after its mixed I'll put it into a storage container and pour syrup over the top. When your ready to eat, just pop it into the microwave. :) Its very good! You can even add bite sized pieces of sausage to the mix.. You can also purchase a snackster of some sort and make pockets with a buttered piece of bread and put scrambled eggs, cheese, & sausage. Close and once done you can freeze these. mmm!!

on 1/23/2007 I keep a canister of oatmeal at my cubicle with a box of splenda for emergencies. Oatmeal is great for your cholesterol levels, plus it tends to keep you feeling full right up until lunch. Join me in praising my canister of oatmeal.
