2. Place intermediate bets throughout the middle of the tournament. Mix up bet play by staying consistent with bet amounts, then changing to larger or smaller bets. This ensures that no one gets accustomed to your betting style and reads your hand easier.

   Establish a betting style for the number of players in the pot. Bet higher when there are few players in the hand. Attempt bluffs with very few players in the poker hand. Stay in a big pot as long as your odds of winning are above 50 percent.

4. Bet more loosely as the players in the Texas Hold ‘em tournament start to dwindle. Short stacked players start to get desperate and try to buy pots as the blinds get bigger. Being more aggressive will take out the short stacked players and add to your chip count.

• Don’t call an early ’all in’ bet even if you have pocket aces. All it takes is a pair of pocket deuces to get the trip and force you out of the tournament early.
