Make a Christmas Advent Wreath

The advent wreath is used by families and churches throughout the year to prepare for Christmas. There are four candles around the wreath representing hope, love, joy and peace. They are lit, one each week on the four Sundays before Christmas. The white candle in the center of the wreath is a fairly new addition to the wreath, lit on Christmas day and representing the birth of Jesus. This project is very easy to make and takes less than an hour. It makes a beautiful centerpiece for your kitchen table as you light each candle right before you eat dinner.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 purple taper candles
  • 1 rose taper candle
  • 1 white pillar candle
  • Floral wreath ring (flat)
  • Floral pins
  • 4 floral candle holders
  • Pine sprigs
  • Holly sprigs
  • 4 Christmas bows or silk poinsettia flowers
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  1. Step 1

Place the candle holders into the foam so they are equal spaces around the wreath. This is a wreath that sits on your table, not hung on the wall.

  2. Step 2

Work the pine sprigs around the wreath, using floral pins to hold them down. Just put the pin under a bunch of pine needles but across the main branch, and you won't see them. Cover the entire piece of foam.

  3. Step 3

Add some holly sprigs to make it look full. You can hot glue the holly onto the pine. You may want to use some around the base of the foam too.

  4. Step 4

Place the taper candles in the holders. Carefully push aside the pine and the holly and put the candles down inside. The order in which they should be lit is: 2 purple, 1 rose and 1 purple.

  5. Step 5

Glue on the 4 bows between each pair of candles. You can also use a nice big poinsettia flower instead of the bows if you like. Don't try to use real flowers unless you can change them out throughout the month.

  6. Step 6

Place the wreath the your table and put the white pillar candle in the center. If you used poinsettias for the wreath, you may want to get some small ones and pin them onto the white candle to make it match.
