How to Renew a DHCP Lease on a Mac
When trying to configure a computer to connect to the Internet through an ethernet port, the easiest method is DHCP, which stands for dynamic host configuration protocol. Essentially, DHCP will automatically configure your internet connection based on the response it receives from your network. However, when you have trouble connecting to the Internet, it may be necessary to refresh your DHCP settings, otherwise known as renewing a DHCP lease. Open System Preferences by clicking on the dock icon.

Choose the "Network" control panel from the "Internet & Network" category.

Select your ethernet connection from the list on the left side of the control panel window. Then click "Advanced" in the lower-right corner of the window.

Choose the "TCP/IP" tab from the top of the control panel window.

Click the button labeled "Renew DHCP Lease," which appears next to your current IP address. After a few moments, the window will refresh with the latest network information, including a new IP address.
