Building a snow man is a great activity for a winter day when the kids are bored and looking for something fun to do. It's also a cost free way to entertain the entire family. As soon as there are a few inches of snow on the ground, you can head outdoors and see if the the snow is right for building a snow man. If you want to build a snow man, follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gloves
  1. Step 1

Use your hands to shape a small amount of snow into a ball.

  2. Step 2

Add snow to the ball until it is about 1 foot across.

  3. Step 3

Get behind the ball and roll it away from you. Snow will stick to your ball as you roll it, making it bigger. Pack the snow to the ball as you roll it using your gloved hands. Continue until your ball is about 2 to 3 feet wide.

  4. Step 4

Repeat steps 1 through 4, two more times. Make each ball consecutively smaller. The middle ball should be 1 to 2 feet wide, and the top ball should be 1/2 to 1 foot wide.

  5. Step 5

Place the balls on top of one another, starting with the largest ball on the bottom. Place the medium ball in the middle and the smallest ball on top.

  6. Step 6

Decorate the top ball as a face by pressing items into the snow. Use buttons for the eyes and a carrot for the nose. You can use licorice for the mouth. If you don't have these items, be creative and use what you have on hand.

Tips & Warnings
  • Accessorize your snow man anyway you wish. Give him a scarf or a hat, if you desire.
  • To prevent frostbite, use waterproof, fleece or wool lined gloves.
