Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Simply Soft yarn by Caron
  • Size 3 straight needles
  • Cable needle
  1. Step 1

Cast on two stitches. Increase in the first and last stitch of the next six rows by knitting into the front and back of the stitch. Row 1: Increase, increase. Row 2: Increase, purl two, increase. Row 3: Increase knit to the last stitch, increase. Row 4: Increase, knit one, purl four, knit one, increase. Row 5: Increase, knit to the last stitch, increase. Row 6: Increase, knit two, purl six, knit two, increase.

  2. Step 2

Begin increasing every third row. Row 7: Knit all stitches. Row 8: Knit four, purl six, knit four. Row 9: Increase, knit 12, increase. Row 10: Knit five, purl six, knit five. Row 11: Knit all stitches.

  3. Step 3

Begin cable twist in row 12. Increase, knit four, slip the next three stitches onto the cable needle and hold them to the front. Purl the next three stitches. Then purl the stitches from the cable needle. Knit four and increase into the last stitch.

  4. Step 4

Continue the next six rows (rows 13 through 18), increasing in rows 15 and 18. When working the right side of the work, knit all stitches. When working the back side, knit to the cable section, purl those six stitches and knit the remaining stitches.

  5. Step 5

Knit the next 21 rows without increases. Knit all the stitches on the right side of the work. Purl only the cable stitches on the wrong side of the work, and knit the rest. At rows 25 and 38, put in a cable twist as described in Step 3.

  6. Step 6

Begin decreasing in row 40. Knit the first two stitches together, knit to the last two stitches. Slip these stitches as if knitting onto the right-hand needle (one at a time). Insert the left-hand needle into the front of the stitches and knit. Continue using this decrease every third row (at rows 43, 46, 49 and 52), while knitting all stitches but the wrong-side cable stitches. Insert a cable twist in row 51, as described in Step 3.

  7. Step 7

Begin decreasing every row until one stitch remains. Cut yarn and insert tail through the loop. Pull tight. Sew in loose ends.
