Mozilla Firefox has quickly become a favorite alternative for browsing the web instead of using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. Many users find the features of Firefox superior to IE and Mozilla is receptive to suggestions for new features. There are also a number of add-ons to Firefox that allow you to customize the browser for your particular needs. Setting Firefox as your default browser is a simple task to accomplish.

Things You'll Need:

  • Mozilla Firefox
  1. Step 1

Click on the check box and set Mozilla Firefox as the default the first time you run the program. There will also be a check box to ask if you want this option to be displayed every time you run the program. If you select Firefox as the default, you can uncheck this second option.

  2. Step 2

Open Firefox and click on ‘options’ under the ‘tools’ menu. Click on the ‘advanced’ tab in the pop up window.

  3. Step 3

Look near the bottom of the window for a clickable box that says ‘Check Now.' Click this box and a new dialogue box will open.

  4. Step 4

Click the option to ‘make Firefox the default browser’ in the dialogue box window and then click the ‘OK’ button.

  5. Step 5

Click the ‘OK’ button in the options window. Firefox is now your default browser and will open automatically when clicking a link in an email, or other documents.

Tips & Warnings
  • Should you choose to change back to Internet Explorer as your default browser, simply click on your control panel and then ‘Internet Options,’ Under the programs tab, you will see a clickable box to make IE your default.
  • Some websites are optimized for Internet Explorer and to view them properly you may have to use IE occasionally. Just be sure not to change it to the default when the dialogue box pops up asking if you want to make that change.
