Come up with a guest list and send out invitations. With your princess, create a list of girls she’d like to invite to the party. You can find princess-themed invitations at your local party store or online. You can also make them yourself by hand. Get some light pink cardstock and find a stamp with a crown and one with a castle. On the invitation, include who the party is for, the location of the party, the date, the time, and who to call. Also, be sure to say that the girls should come in their prettiest dresses. Call a few days before the party to confirm how many girls will be able to come to the party.

Decorate the location for the princess party. Hang pink streamers throughout the party location. Hang (or tie down if outside) balloons around the party location–choose colors such as pink, purple, silver and gold. On the tables, use white tablecloths. Sprinkle plastic gems around the centers of the table for decoration and to be used to decorate crowns later in the party. Let your little princess help decorate for her party if she wants to.

Serve food at the princess party. Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and cut them into four pieces, or get really creative and cut them into star shapes. Serve pink punch, shortbread cookies and chocolate-covered strawberries.

Enjoy some simple princess activities. Get a pillow for each princess and let the princesses sit on them on the floor. Read a story, such as “The Princess and the Pea” by Hans Christian Andersen or “Princess, Princess” by Dale Penny. Set up a few stations that have lip gloss, sparkly face powder, nail polish and perfume. Let the princesses go to each station and have adults help them put on each item. Spread some gold and silver balloons on the floor and let the girls dance to some music.

Serve cake and ice cream. Create a princess cake for the party. The princess cake requires a cake doll, which you can find at most craft or party stores, 2 round cakes and a dome cake (baked in a 2½-qt. bowl). Frost the round cakes with white frosting and the dome cake with pink frosting. Stick a cake doll in the middle of the cake–be sure the cake is up to her waist. Serve cake and ice cream on princess-themed or pink plates.

Give each princess a goody bag. As each princess leaves the party, give her a goody bag and a balloon. In the goody bag, include bite-size chocolate candy bars, necklaces, a plastic princess ring, stickers, lip gloss and bubbles. Thank everyone for coming to the party.

Tips & Warnings

  • An alternative to a princess cake is a princess cupcake tree. You can find the cupcake trees at party supply or cake decorating stores. Fill the cupcake tree with cupcakes decorated with pink frosting and sprinkles.

  • Make sure that the pretty princess stations are supervised by an adult. You don’t want any little princesses trying to paint their own nails and spilling the nail polish on their pretty dresses.
