Want a custom, professional logo for your business? It will attract new customers, and help to identify your business as a real contender. Plus, it also defines your brand, which will make people think of you when they need a service or product. You can easily design your own logo in Photoshop. Follow these steps to start building your own signature imprint for your business.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photoshop
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Open Photoshop and select one of the shape tools, either the ellipse or rectangle tool, depending on the desired shape of your background.

  2. Step 2

Select the "Color" tab on the right, and open up the color pallet. Choose a color for the background, preferably one that grabs attention but is not too loud. Red, blue, green or purple are good choices.

  3. Step 3

Select the "Layer" button in the top navigation bar, then choose the "Layer Style" button. Slide over to the pop-out menu and click on "Drop Shadow." A new menu box opens.

  4. Step 4

Select "Drop Shadow," "Inner Shadow," "Outer Glow," "Inner Glow" and "Bevel and Emboss." Then under "Bevel and Emboss," select "Contour" if you want your logo to "pop" or be contoured.

  5. Step 5

Choose the "Gradient Overlay" option to add a fade to your logo background. You can adjust the direction of the fade using the "Angle" tool, and make it more or less opaque by adjusting the opacity in the gradient overlay box which appears when you double-click this selection.

  6. Step 6

Select the "Text" tool and click and drag your cursor over the shape. This opens a text box where you can type in your logo text.

  7. Step 7

Type in your business name, or other text you want to promote. Then select the style of text, color and text size from the "Character" menu on the right-hand side.

  8. Step 8

Fine tune your logo background by selecting the shape in the "Layer" box and changing the settings in each one of the layer styles to complete your design.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you double-click on a style like "Gradient Overlay," a menu appears that allows you to alter the direction of the shadows, height of the contour, color, opacity and many more options.
