Home Remedies for Clear Skin

Facial products that promise to clear up your skin can cost a fortune, and there's no guarantee that they'll work. Before you spend a lot of money, try some of these home remedies for clear skin. They cost next to nothing, and you might have great success with one or more of these remedies. Also, you won't need to worry about questionable ingredients or irritation to fragrances and artificial colors that you find in many commercial products.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Steam your pores. Especially in dry weather, your pores can become clogged. There's a simple way to steam your pores, but you do have to be careful. First, put a pot of water on the stove and heat it until you start to see steam rise. Remove the pot from the heat, and place it on a hot pad or towel on your kitchen table. Get a large bath towel and drape the towel over your head. Your head goes between the pot and the towel. Lean over the steam and relax. If you get too hot, move away from the pot or remove the towel from your head for a while. You can add lemon juice and herbs (fresh rosemary is great) to the water for aromatherapy benefits.

  2. Step 2

Make an egg white mask. Egg white masks reduce the oily feeling of your skin and make it feel nice and smooth. If you find that your skin is acne-prone because of excess oils, this is for you. Separate a single egg white from the yolk and mix it in a small bowl. Using your fingers or a brush, apply the egg white to your face and neck, but don't get it too close to your eyes and mouth. Let it dry for 15 minutes and then wash it off.

  3. Step 3

Make a facial scrub. Combine a small amount of your normal facial soap with a small amount of corn meal. There's no need to get a bowl dirty for this. You can just mix it right in your hand before you wash your face. The corn meal will remove dead skin cells as you wash your face, and it rinses off and goes right down the drain.

  4. Step 4

Make a honey and oatmeal mask. Combine a small amount of honey with a smaller amount of oatmeal. Many people claim that this is the best mask they've ever tried. It leaves your skin feeling very clean and soft. Apply the honey and oatmeal combination to your face, avoiding your hair at all costs. Leave it on for about 10 minutes, and then rinse. The honey cleanses your skin, but is much gentler than anything you'll find in store-bought acne products.

  5. Step 5

Instead of using a traditional moisturizer, use sweet almond oil, which can be purchased at any health food store. Many expensive skin care products contain sweet almond oil, but you can use it straight. Use a small amount, and avoid your forehead, nose, and chin if they're prone to breakouts.

  6. Step 6

Use a gentle touch. When you apply any home treatment for clear skin, use the gentlest touch possible. Your skin can be overstimulated by roughness, and this may produce extra oils.
