How to Make a Turkey out of a Potato
There are so many ways you can make a turkey craft for Thanksgiving. The best way, however, is to make one out of food--in this case, using a potato and marshmallows. This turkey would make a great centerpiece for the children's dinner table on Thanksgiving Day.
Things You'll Need
- Toothpicks
- Mini marshmallows
- Food coloring
- Construction paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Google eyes
- Bowls

Get out a potato and stick several toothpicks in the back at an angle. These will be the turkey's feathers when you are done.

Set several bowls out and put a few drops of food coloring in each. Each bowl should have a different color. Orange, brown, yellow and red are good choices.

Add several mini marshmallows to each bowl and mix in the food coloring.

Slide the colored marshmallows on the toothpicks and you have your feathers.

Cut out a brown face and neck for the turkey from brown construction paper.

Glue the face and neck to the front of the potato.

Add a pair of google eyes at the top.

Cut out a beak and a whittle from your construction paper. Glue them on the face.

Tips & Warnings
If you don't have any marshmallows, you can make feathers out of construction paper.
If you have feathers from a craft store, you can use those.
