Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Remington 1100 Shotgun
  • Small object such as ice pick or long nail
  • Bore snake
  • Scrub brush
  • Bore cleaner
  • Small cloth or cleaning patches
  • Bore oil
  • Oil or grease
  1. Step 1

Take the gun apart to clean it well. This is fairly easy to do and is done to remove powder residue and general gunk from the parts of the shotgun.

  2. Step 2
    Removing the magazine cap

Unscrew the magazine cap and pull the forearm off toward the front of the gun.

  3. Step 3
    Removing the barrel
    Removing the barrel

Take the barrel off by pulling the bolt back and locking it.

  4. Step 4

Take a small object like an ice pick or long nail and place a patch with oil on it. Run this object through the porting holes to clean all of the gas residue from the holes.

  5. Step 5

Run a bore snake through the barrel to remove the loose powder and residue. Use a scrub brush with a bore cleaner to get out as much “gunk” as possible. Make a point of running a bore snake through the barrel after each use to lessen the buildup of black gunk in the barrel.

  6. Step 6

Follow with a small clean cloth or cleaning patch. The patch should exit with a lot of black residue on it. Repeat this step until the patch exits virtually clean. This may take several patches.

  7. Step 7

Remove choke tubes and clean in the same way the barrels were cleaned. Plastic wad residue will build up on the chokes if they are not cleaned regularly. Oil the chokes tubes and/or grease the threads before screwing them back in. This will prevent them from seizing up later.

  8. Step 8

Reassemble the gun to its original form. Use a Rem Wipe or cloth and oil to shine the stock and clean any fingerprints from the barrel.
