A Realtor is a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), which is the largest professional organization for licensed real estate professionals. The NAR was founded in 1908 to promote a higher code of ethics and preserve property rights. To become an Arizona Realtor, you must first be an Arizona real estate licensee, and join a local Realtor association. Membership in a local (Arizona) association automatically extends membership into the Arizona Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

Things You'll Need:

  • Money for education, testing and fees
  1. Step 1

Take the first step in obtaining your Arizona real estate sales license. Visit the Arizona Department of Real Estate website (link in references) and locate a credited real estate school in your area. Completion of the course will require 90 hours of education and a passing grade of the class.

  2. Step 2

Make an appointment to take your state and national real estate license tests. Information can be found on the Arizona Department of Real Estate website. You must pass both tests. If you fail to pass one or both of the tests, you can reschedule and retake. There is a fee for each time you take a test.

  3. Step 3

Submit your application to the Arizona Department of Real Estate. After you pass the state and national tests, you must submit an application with fingerprints to the Arizona Department of Real Estate. Application and fingerprint information can be obtained at their website.

  4. Step 4

Hang your license with a broker in Arizona. All real estate sales licensees must operate under a licensed broker. Your broker can help you identify your local Realtor association.

  5. Step 5

Join your local Realtor association. There will be a fee for this. The local association may require you take several classes, to familiarize you with the association. Once the local association requirements are met, you will be officially sworn in as a member.

Tips & Warnings
