How to Make a Shrinky Dink Igloo

Igloo

Shrinky Dink crafts are a favorite among children because they appear magical: A large Shrinky Dink dwindles down to half its size when it is baked in the oven. Shrinky Dinks can be made at any season or for any object. The Shrinky Dink craft described here is an igloo. The igloo is appropriate during the winter. Children can learn about igloos in science class and then can complete this craft to serve as a reminder.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick up a package of Shrinky Dink sheets. If your craft store doesn't have any you can purchase them from the original makers of Shrinky Dink (see Resources below).

    • 2

Take out a Shrinky Dink sheet and hold the rough side out in front of you. This is the side that you are going to work with.

    • 3

Get out a white pencil crayon and draw an outline of an igloo. This outline should be a little larger than you really want your igloo to turn out (it is going to shrink later).

    • 4

Use your white and black pencil crayons to fill in the rest of your igloo. Make sure you use the black to create lines between the ice blocks. Completely shade everything in.

    • 5

Set the oven to 325 degrees F and give it time to heat up.

    • 6

Start cutting out your igloo. Make sure you leave a clear space all the way around the igloo to give the igloo room to shrink.

    • 7

Place the igloo color side up on the baking sheet.

    • 8

Insert the baking sheet in to the oven and let it sit for 1 minute. Quickly remove and make sure you use oven mitts as the baking sheet will be hot.

    • 9

Allow your Shrinky Dink igloo to have time to cool before you use it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut off a strip of magnet to fit the back of your Shrinky Dink igloo. Place the igloo on the refrigerator for a decoration.

  • Don't take your eyes off of your Shrinky Dink because it can burn in only a few seconds.
