Things You'll Need:
- Old Sheets/Newspapers
- Sponge
- Mild/Gentle Household
- Masking Tape
- Primer
- Paint Tray
- Paint Roller
- Small Flat Paint Brush
-
Step 1
Newspaper / http://www.norcalblogs.com/watts/images/newspaper.jpgThe first thing you’ll need to do is remove everything out of the room. Then, cover the floor with old sheets or newspapers.
-
Step 2
Cats at an open window / http://www.chessninja.com/images/catblogging8-window.jpgNext, you’ll need to make sure you open all windows and doors. The paint fumes could make you sick, so you want to plenty of ventilation to prevent this.
-
Step 3
SPONGE BOB Wants to Help =) LOL / http://www.shivanjaikaran.com/uploads/sponge_bob2.gifNow you need to clean the walls of the room. The best way I’ve found is to use a sponge and household cleaners. Don’t use cleaners that are too harsh. You need to use something mild/gentle. By cleaning the walls, the end result will look better and help the paint to stick.
-
Step 4
Using Masking Tape / http://www.rd.com/images/tfhimport/2005/20051101_MaskingTape_img003.jpgNext take masking tape and place it at the edges where the ceiling meets the wall, around windows, etc. This will help you create a straight line while your painting, and will also prevent paint from getting on areas you don’t want it to be. In other words, your painting will look much more professionally done =)
-
Step 5
Next you’ll need to seal the wall using a primer. To make this whole project less tiring, I recommend using a primer that is tinted similar to the paint you will be using. This will prevent you from having to put multiple coats of paint on the walls.
-
Step 6
Paint Tray / http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/interior-painting-equipment-basics-ga-5.jpgYAY! Paint time! Start by filling a paint tray with approximately 2 inches of paint. Take a roller and dip it into the paint. I recommend purchasing a roller that is not too expensive, but also not too cheap. A good roller will make the whole painting experience less painful =)
-
Step 7
Now roll the roller (imaging that =) back and forth in the pan, coving it with paint. Make sure your roller is not saturated with paint. This could cause dripping on the walls. You want the roller to have paint evenly dispersed over the roller.
-
Step 8
Painting / http://images.meredith.com/bhg/images/2006/02/p_100399185.jpgUsing up and down strokes, begin painting the first wall, then the second wall and so on. When you’ve completely painted the room, go back and paint over any areas you may have missed or that appear lighter than the other areas. Apply a second coat if necessary.
-
Step 9
Give the paint 24 hours to dry, then you can remove the tape! TAA DAA! You Did It!!!1
