Things You'll Need:
- Potatoes (one and a half baking potatoes per person)
- Whole Milk
- Butter
- Masher
- Garlic
- Salt and Pepper
-
Step 1
Roast the Garlic. Take the whole clove without peeling, and slice off the head about a half inch from the top. Set it in tin foil and coat with olive oil or butter. Pinch the foil shut and insert in oven at about 325 for 50 minutes.
-
Step 2
Boil Water. Set about six cups of water to boil. If you boil water in a countertop electric kettle, it saves energy (and cost to you!). Add a little salt in the pot to the boiling water.
-
Step 3
Chop the Potatoes. Cut them into pieces that are no bigger than two square inches, LEAVING THE SKIN ON. This is the most nutritional part of the potato and adds texture and flavor to the final product. Place potatos in boiling water when done.
-
Step 4
Boil. Let them boil for about thirty minutes, or until completely falling apart in the water. Drain the potatoes (I recommend inserting a colander into a bare sink and pouring them into it. I always burn myself if I try draining the pot and holding the colander at the same time).
-
Step 5
Mash! Return the potatoes to the pot, and add whole milk and butter. This is actually up to taste, depending how creamy/caloric you'd like your potatoes to be. The garlic should be done by now; remove from oven and slide the hot, soft pieces out of the clove and straight into the pot with the potatoes. Mash away!
