Making your own incense sticks or cones is a really easy and inexpensive way to make your home smell wonderful. These hand dipped sticks and cones burn as much as 3 times longer than most sticks you purchase in the stores. They also produce less smoke as DPG does not smoke like alcohol does.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fragrance Oil
  • DPG
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Zip Lock Bags
  • Large Jar
  • Unscented Incense Sticks or Cones
  • Gloves
  1. Step 1

Put on your gloves. Mix your fragrance oil and DPG together. Use a 1 to 3 ratio for this. For instance, use 4 ounces of fragrance oil to 12 ounces of DPG.

  2. Step 2

Use heavy duty aluminum foil to make a small boat shaped container for your incense sticks or cones. Place your sticks or cones in the middle of the boat and pour the fragrance oil mixture over them. Roll the sticks or cones around to make sure the mixture has coated the sticks evenly in all areas.

  3. Step 3

Pull up the sides of the aluminum foil boat and seal it. Place this in a gallon zip lock bag and leave it for 24 hours.

  4. Step 4

After 24 hours, remove the sticks from the foil package and place them in a large plastic glass with the portion that is held in your hand on the bottom. Allow the sticks to dry for 24 hours. Store them in zip lock bags until you are ready to use them.
For cones, once you have removed them from the package, place them on a tray or paper plate to dry. Store them as instructed above.

Tips & Warnings
  • Incense that is prepared this way and stored in a sealed bag will be good for several years.
  • If you do not like to burn incense, these sticks are wonderful to use in your clothes drawers, closets or in cars as air fresheners or to scent your clothing or room. They do not have to be burned to appreciate the fragrance of them.
  • If you have left over fragrance oil mixture, you can repeat the process until it is gone.
  • These sticks will burn for 45 minutes up to 1 hour. Most of the sticks purchased at the store burn around 15 minutes.
  • DPG can be purchased at most candle or soap making suppliers
  • Use gloves when handling any fragrance oils or DPG.
  • Throw away any left over mixture not used.
