Have a storage shed with no storage? Well there are a few hidden storage areas. Some people don't think about.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Jars (glass or plastic)
  • empty coffee, nut, pringles
  • and any can with a lid
  • Clear plastic storage containers (found at Wal-mart, Target and any discount store)
  • Storage hooks
  • Over the door coat hooks
  • scrap or new 1x4 or 6's (2x's will work, too.)
  1. Step 1
    wood storage shed

Clean the shed out. Fix anything that needs fixing.
(I am talking about wooden sheds with 2x4 or 2x6 construction. About a 8x10 or 8x12 by 8' ceiling with rafters. A 8x12x8 is an ideal size.)
But just about any of this will work for any size shed.

  2. Step 2
    2x4's between studs

    2x4's between studs

Build a work bench across the back wall. An old solid door will do. Usually about 36" wide. On one end of the bench a series of shelves the same depth as the bench. The plastic storage boxes are about the same length. There will be room for about 2 shelves including the bench level.
Make them wide enough for 2 storage containers across. Under the shelf end of the bench, leave it open, for taller things that can set on the floor. On the walls behind and beside, the open end of the bench, nail 1x's or 2x's between the studs at different heights. On one of the side walls put some more 1x's or 2x's. Start at about waist height. Put ladder hooks under these. Put some tool hooks up about 1' above head level on part of the wall. Preferably near the door. On the other wall put another bench, not as deep and snug it up to the front corner. This is where you can use grinders, vises or any other electrical tools. Put the benches about waist high. If you fish, find a place near the rafters to put cup hooks. Put as many as you have poles. Hang the tip on each hook. Under those put a couple of 1x12 shelves between the studs, to put fishing equipment. Put a shelf above the door, put a front edge on it. Use this shelf for oils ect. for weed eaters, chainsaws and lawn mowers.
Under the smaller bench put some shelves, snugged up into the corner. On the other end put a couple of big plastic storage containers. Put more shelves above this bench also. Some 1x's, 2x's different depths. For books Whatever you need them for.

  3. Step 3
    storage hooks

On the 1x's or 2x's put the jars and cans. Put different size, shapes of nails, screws, bolts, washers and gaskets, ect. On the cans and other containers you can't see through; tape a sample on the outside with clear packaging tape. On the clear storage containers label them: electrical, plumbing, auto, electronics and wire Ect. Use the ones below the bench put: Lawn ornaments, outdoor games, ect. Put some utility hooks in the bottom side of the rafters to hang weed eaters, bikes fromBy this time you should have your creative juices flowing and have some ideas of your own. Don't forget your rafters , lots of storage there, too.

Tips & Warnings
  • Once you get started you'll get really inspired.
  • Be careful the cupboards and closets might be next.
