If you always feel like you're sleep deprived and drowsy, here are some tips to sleeping better and waking refreshed!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Avoid drinking caffeine at night. This is almost a sure-fire way to keep you wired and not tired. Coffee and sodas should be reserved for early to midday if any. Try a glass of milk or water at night if you must drink something. Going to the bathroom right before bed might help avoid those late-night urination urges that disturb your sleep pattern.

  2. Step 2

Lights out and TV off. Remove or cover anything that produces light. This includes shutting the TV down or removing it from the bedroom, hanging curtains in front of windows, covering computer cases and monitors, etc etc. Anything that can distract you from sleeping or wake you up in the middle of the night is counter-productive.

  3. Step 3

Eliminate excitatory sounds. If you prefer sleeping with music or the radio on, try setting it to a soothing station or consider investing in a sound machine. Waves crashing or sounds of the forest or jungle are considered soothing by many people.

  4. Step 4

Give yourself enough time to get a good night's rest. Most adults need 6-8 hours to function properly. If you are just laying down with 5 hours left till morning, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Even if you have the most serene peaceful environment, you still won't have enough time to get quality sleep. Discipline yourself to settle down in bed at around the same time each day.
