Is your printer producing streaky pictures, or blobs on the photos you print? You might need to run the cleaning utility, designed in order to clean inkjet printers. This step by step guide will tell you how to get into it and clean inkjet printers safely.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • printer
  • copy paper
  • damp paper towel
  1. Step 1

Go to the start menu, click “Printers and Faxes.” Right click the icon that corresponds with your printer.

  2. Step 2

Select “Properties.” Make sure the “General” Tab is selected. (It should already be, by default) and click “Printing Preferences.”

  3. Step 3

Make sure the “Features” tab is selected and click “Printer Services.”

  4. Step 4

Make sure the “Device Services” tab is selected and click “Clean the Print Cartridges." Follow the prompts. There are more than one level of cleaning to go through.

  5. Step 5

If this does not work, remove the ink cartridge. Dab it with a slightly damp paper towel. Be careful not to get bits of the paper stuck to the cartridge! Take care when you clean inkjet printers so you do not damage the heads with grit. Good luck!

Tips & Warnings
  • Do NOT use alcohol or solvents because they can damage your printer.
