If you have a front wheel drive car (which you most likely do) you need to keep your best tires up front. This will increase the grip of your drive wheels. To tell if your tires need to be rotated we are going to use a tread depth gauge. This can be picked up at any local auto parts store for a couple dollars.

  2. Step 2

Take out your tread depth gauge and measure the middle tread line of the front tires. Note the measurement. Usually the gauge use 1/32 of a inch increments.

  3. Step 3

Walk to the back of the car and measure the middle of the tread for the rear tires.

  4. Step 4

If the tread on the rear tires is 1/32 of a inch or more thicker than the front tires you need to have your tires rotated.
