  1. Step 1

    Enroll in an automatic savings program. Have your financial institution automatically transfer a certain amount from your checking account to a savings account. This can done weekly, monthly, etc.

  2. Step 2

    At the end of every day, take the change you have accumulated that day and put it in a jar or some other container. At the end of each week, month, etc., deposit the change in the jar into your savings account.

  3. Step 3

    Take your lunch to work. Packing a lunch can save you a considerable amount of money. It only takes 5-10 minutes or less to pack a lunch and you can save at least $50 a month.

  4. Step 4

    Stay away from Starbucks. Make your own coffee or cappuccino at home instead of paying for it at Starbucks or the local convenience store.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you begin an automatic savings plan, don't forget to deduct the amount going from your checking account to your savings account each time. Otherwise, you may find yourself overdrawing your checking account.
