Esbilac and Just Born are popular pre made milk replacement formula, they are expensive and not always available in an urgent situation. Wal- Mart, feed stores and pet stores often carry what you need but are not open 24 hours a day.

Below are 3 different formulas so that you can make one in an emergency situation.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 recipe each step
  • Never feed chilled pup warm up first
  • Talk to vet about method of feeding
  • Never use drinking milk
  • use BOILED water

Instructions

      Recipe 1 -
      13 oz. canned evaporated milk
      13 oz water
      4 oz. plain yogurt (1/2 cup)
      4 egg yolks
      1 tablespoon of liquid vitamins* (check with vet)
      *If you are in a pinch you can leave out the vitamins.

      Recipe 2 -
      10 oz. canned evaporated milk
      3 oz. water
      1 raw egg yolk
      1 cup of whole plain yogurt
      1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup

      Recipe 3 -
      8 oz of water
      8 oz evaporated milk
      1 beaten egg yolk
      1 tablespoon corn syrup

      I am adding this step because the article when being revised is said to be too short. It is several recipes that address serious situation and I did not want to fluff it with needless stuff. Tips & Warnings

  • Check with vet and be careful not to aspirate if using bottle or syringe

  • emergency formula can be continued with vet approval

  • formula should be at about 100 degrees.

  • do not feed chilled pup - warm puppy first

  • do not keep longer than 5 days
