How to Easy Homemade Pirate Costume for Child

Pretty soon it will be time to send your little one out to canvas the neighborhood for candy. If you are not satisfied with the costume selection available at the store, either because the selection is abysmal or you would like to reuse/recycle items from home or the resale shop, you can follow these simple steps to make a cute pirate costume.
This costume is easy and affordable, we used items found at goodwill and the dollar store. Only a few items needed to be bought at a costume shop.
This costume is a great alternative to the usual fairy, princess, and witch costumes found at retailers. This costume is for a girl pirate but could easily toughened up for a boy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bandana
  • Black Pants-shorter
  • White Top-Long Sleeve
  • Pirate Hat
  • Black Shoes
  • Eye Patch
  • "Gold" Bead Necklaces
  • Earring-"gold" clip on
  • Colorful Scarf
  • Sequined Jolly Roger/Skull & Crossbones Iron on
  • Stuffed Parrot
  • Pirate Hat
  • Scissors
  • Makeup-eyeliner, Store Makeup kit
  1. Step 1

    First, use scissors to cut cuffs of pants. Either leave in long tatters or run edge of scissors along each strip to fray. Neckline of shirt can be cut in a similar fashion. Also, fray cuffs of shirt.

  2. Step 2

    Next, following the manufacturers instructions apply the sequined Jolly Roger or Skull and Cross Bones to front of shirt.

  3. Step 3

    Finally, assemble costume. Have child get in pants and shirt. Tie scarf around waist at an angle-frays or tatters could also be added to scarf. The bandana is tied at an angle on child's head. Put on "gold" hoop earring, "gold" bead necklaces-make sure your little pirate has plenty of jewelry. Place eye patch over eye, Place hat over bandana and eye patch strap.

  4. Step 4

    At this point you can have Child carry Parrot or find a way to strap parrot to their shoulder or arm.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use eye liner to give child "Captain Sparrow" eyes
  • Use eye liner to give child a mustache
  • Use makeup to give child a dirty, grubby appearance
