This article will teach you how to upgrade the RAM (Random Access Memory) installed in your computer.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Screwdriver, (most likely a Phillips-head, please determine the type by checking your computer tower)
  • New stick of RAM (consult your computer's original manual and/or manufacturer website for type of RAM needed)
  1. Step 1

Power down the computer. Remove all cables and place the computer on a flat surface.

  2. Step 2

Determine the best way to open your PC. Typically the computer tower will have screws on the back, near where the ports are located. Based on the tower design, you may need to remove a side panel or the entire cover to gain access to the inside of the PC. Refer to your computer manual and/or PC manufacturer's website for further information.

  3. Step 3

Once the PC has been opened, locate the current RAM configuration for the PC. Find the open slot and install the RAM into the computer. Ensure the RAM clicks into the slot and the hinges on each side are keeping the RAM in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to check your computer manual and/or PC manufacturer's website to ensure the correct type of RAM is purchased for your PC
  • When working inside of a computer, be sure it is unplugged and you are in a static-free environment.
