Step 1
Check your local paper or web sites for auctions in your area. Visit a few auctions to see how the audience bids and what type of merchandise the auction handles. Each auction house has a character of its own.
-
Step 2
Arrive early to inspect the merchandise. Dig into the boxes to see what might be hidden at the bottom of a box. How many salable items are in each lot? I usually will write down the items that I think will sell well.
-
Step 3
At this point you need to research the items on ebay to find their selling prices. If you have a laptop with wireless internet access you can use it to do your research on ebay. If not call someone who can research the items for you from a home computer. When searching for a selling price on ebay only search the completed items. The completed listings will give you a very accurate dollar amount for the selling price that you can get for an item on ebay.
-
Step 4
Patience and alertness will get you the best prices on lots at an auction. Only bid on items that will make you a nice profit on ebay.
-
Step 5
Save some of your budget for the end of the auction. The other bidders get tired they spend all of their money and many will leave early. Sometimes their vehicles are full and they cannot take any more items. This is the time for you to kick in your energy. Over half of your competition will leave early so this is a bonus time for you.
-
Step 6
Sale, Sale, Sale. Usually just a few items sold on ebay will cover the costs of a whole car load of auction items .

on 1/20/2009 Very good article and so true. If you have a lot of left over items, take them back to the auction house and have them re-sell them for you.
