1
Use a lot of oils in your skin, such as pure vitamin E oil found in health stores, olive oil, almond oil, baby oil or bath oil for after showering.
-
2
Consider supplementing your diet with cod liver oil. Dry skin can be caused by a deficiency of vitamin A, and the oil provides both vitamins A and D.
-
-
3
Use aloe vera lotion or cocoa butter lotion as often as needed, after showering or taking a bath, and before going outdoors in the cold weather.
-
4
Try not to shower with hot water all the time. Use warm water for your skin. Don't use harsh soaps for your skin; instead, use a milder body wash or milder soaps containing moisturizers.
-
5
Drink a lot of filtered or bottled water every day. This keeps your skin from being dehydrated. Replace sodas with water. Drink coffee in moderation because coffee can dry up the amount of water you place in your body.
-
6
Keep your thermostat at 68 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit in winter. If your thermostat is set higher than this, the warmth can dry your skin.
-
7
Use a humidifier for your home during the winter months to increase the moisture in the air and keep your skin from becoming dry.
-
8
Get alpha hydroxy acids in your diet. They will encourage the formation of new skin cells. Foods that have alpha hydroxy acids are apples, milk, grapes, tomatoes, citrus fruits and blackberries. Eat these foods as much as you can to have softer skin.
