New dads experience many changes when a baby arrives, just as mom does. It is important to take time to get to know your baby and keep in touch with your partner at the same time. Here is how you can make the most out of being a new dad.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An open heart!
  1. Step 1

Allow yourself time to adjust to your new role as a parent. It may take some time for you to get used to having a baby in the house, and it might not come as natural as it does to a mother.

  2. Step 2

Change your baby and bring him or her to mom for a feeding in the middle of the night.

  3. Step 3

Help your partner with household chores.

  4. Step 4

Volunteer to watch the baby when your wife takes a nap during the day.

  5. Step 5

Cuddle with your newborn on your bare chest. Skin to skin contact is the best way to bond with a baby.

  6. Step 6

Take off time from your job to with your wife and your new baby. A new dad needs time to spend with the baby also.

  7. Step 7

Attend a new dad class at your local hospital or health center. This class can help prepare you for the different things that may arise with a new baby.

  8. Step 8

Give your wife a massage to help ease her stress and pain. If she is well rested, she can better take care of the baby.

Tips & Warnings
  • Enjoy the time you have with your baby, as the time will go by really fast.
