Things You'll Need:
- Ample time
- Calendar
- Patience

Step 1
1. Visit the counselors office at your high school at the beginning of your JUNIOR year. It's important to start early. They will help you in making sure you are taking all standardized test in a timely manner, which several scholarship opportunities require these scores for your application process. You can also utilize the counselors to learn about programs or extracurricular activities which award scholarships for participation (i.e. Student Council, Debate Team, Sports, etc.).

Step 2
Make sure your parents are clear on your goals to go to college. Many times, you will need their support and assistance for paperwork. You will also want to use this opportunity to become extremely resourceful. Tell everyone around you (i.e. church, work, family and friends, etc.) of your plans to attend college. Many times, monetary gifts are extended to help you start your journey.

Step 3
The most important piece to this all is TIME. You MUST start early. Many scholarships, grants, etc., have early deadlines. Start your research early and make sure your chance is not denied because of a missed deadline. Always be prepared with materials such as: Why you are a great potential recipient of the scholarship, grades, test scores, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, personal achievement, etc.
