Coffee makers that are used regularly should be cleaned about once a month to maintain a clean tasting brew. Vinegar will help remove hard water build-up and mineral deposits.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Your coffee pot
  • water
  • white distilled vinegar
  1. Step 1

Mix one part water and two parts vinegar in your coffee pot.

  2. Step 2

Pour the mixture into the reservoir of your coffee maker.

  3. Step 3

Turn your coffee maker on to let the mixture filter through.

  4. Step 4

Once the mixture is filtered through, turn the coffee maker off.

  5. Step 5

Let the pot cool before handling. (You can either pour the mixture down the sink or see here for ways to use the leftover mixture: http://www.versatilevinegar.org/usesandtips.html)

  6. Step 6

If your coffee maker is used once or more daily, you might want to repeat the process again to ensure a good cleaning.

  7. Step 7

Fill the resevoir with plain water and let that filter through. This will ensure that any residual vinegar taste is filtered out.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your coffee maker has a charcoal water filter, be sure to replace it regularly.
  • While this cleaning process should work for any coffee pot, please check with your owner's manual before using. (Most owner's manuals can be found online at the manufacturer's website.)
