Things You'll Need:
- a rotary lawn spreader
- granular type insect killer for fleas
- a tropical treatment for your pet
-
Step 1
Advantage Tropical Flea TreatmentTreating your pet. I have found that the best treatment for my pets is a tropical treatment. Advantage & Frontline are two very good flea control treatments. Advantage or Frontline are available at your vets or local pet store.
-
Step 2
How to apply dropsTo apply place drops between the shoulder blades. This will keep your pet from ingesting it. Carefully read package instructions for your pet’ s size and weight. Make sure to purchase the correct dosage. This treatment must be repeated monthly
-
Step 3
Rotary SpreaderTreat your lawn with granular type insect killer. To apply the insect killer you will need a rotary spreader for best results. Trying to apply the granules by hand (without a spreader) will result in poor coverage. You want to make sure that the proper amount of insecticide granules are distributed evenly over the effected area.
-
Step 4
Insect Killer GranualesNot only will this kill the fleas in your lawn but a whole host of other pests. This treatment should be repeated every 2 months.
-
Step 5
Getting the fleas under control in the house. Only in extreme cases would I use a flea bomb. If you just have a few fleas they will die once your pet is treated. You can also vacuum up the fleas. But the vacuum doesn't usually kill them. If you leave them in the bag in the vacuum, they will be confused for a while but they'll crawl right back out in a few hours. You will also have eggs hatching in the bag. You need to remove the bag from your house entirely.
-
Step 6
You have to be consistent to keep fleas under control. Apply the tropical flea rx monthly. Treat your lawn every 2 months. Use flea bombs in the house only when the fleas are out of control. I have used this method for 10 years and have had great success.
