Step 1
Little baby is showing signs of tiredness! Really, they do! Perhaps you see eye rubbing, burying face in your shoulder, crying, crying crying. Time to get the routine started.

Step 2
Bath time- this is usually best before the over tired stage. Draw a warm bath and let baby relax as you wash them gently and massage their bodies. Letting water trickle down over them from a cup or rag, entertains and soothes these little ones. When finished, wrap your baby in a fluffy, adult bath towel. There's more room for the baby to get cozy then in a baby towel.

Step 3
Books- read a book that baby loves. Do they smile when you show them the pages? Do the pictures maintain their interest, hold their gaze? Perhaps your older baby might choose the book on their own. Whatever the choice, leave time to read and snuggle close. This is precious time, where a baby feels your love and security.

Step 4
Music can calm your baby. Soft, soothing music works well. Recommended artists include James Galway (flute), Renee Fleming (soprano), Isaac Perlman (violin). These are just a few resources. Baby will always respond well to music they are used to hearing in their everyday lives.

Step 5
Time for bed. Swaddle your baby if they are young. Perhaps they might enjoy a sleep sack if they are bigger. Either item provides a sense of security as they feel bundled. Lay your young infant under the age of one on their back. Older babies might like an alternate sleep position.
It's okay to pat your little one,rub their tummy or stroke their hair. Whichever your baby enjoys the most!!
