Clean And Organize Your Closet
Clean And Organize Your Closet

It's everyone's dirty little secret...a dirty closet. There are plenty of ways to clean and organize your closet without a headache. You can make your own closet organizing system and closet organizers without paying a dime!

Here are some tips and ideas to help clean and organize your closet space without spending a ton of money.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First off, look through everything in your closet. Decide if you really want it, or your just keeping it...to keep it. If you have no use for it - it needs to go.

Same rules apply to clothing. If you haven't worn it in 6 months, chances are you are not going to and it needs to go.

  2. Step 2

Make good use out of old things. Clothing, shoes, old purses, and accessories can be donated to The Good Will, or Salvation Army.

  3. Step 3

Now that you have gotten rid of a few things, you will notice you have extra room!

A really easy way to help organize is to seperate your clothing by season, use, or function. Example: Your work clothes go together, etc.

  4. Step 4

Invest in some shoe racks, space saving boxes or containers, and labels.

If your a shoe lover, a rack will be your best friend!! Space bags or plastic containers will help you store accessories, and other odds & ins much easier. You can label them and not have to worry about trying to find them later.

  5. Step 5

If you don't have room, or money for shoe racks. You can build your own. A friend once told me a very clever way to build a easy slide out shoe rack.

You can buy a piece of ply wood from your local hardware store and a few rollers. You screw the rollers on the bottom on the ply board, and instantly you have a sliding shoe rack.

You can place it in the bottom of you closet, or even under your bed to create some more room.

  6. Step 6

Another really easy and inexpensive way to help get organized is to make some shelves. Go to your local hardware store and buy a few pieces of board and shelf hangers.

You'll be amazed at what you can store, and how much money you saved.

Tips & Warnings
  • A really neat way to help for the next time your clean your closet is to turn every hanger facing outward. If you notice a hanger that hasn't been turned in another couple of months, you know you should probably get rid of it.
  • Need to have a dust catcher for dressy clothes? Instead of buying expensive bags, just use a trash bag over your clothes.
  • Watch out for critters hiding in corners!
  • Be prepared to get frustrated. Just take it a step at a time!

on 10/15/2008 I really like the idea about the sliding shoe-rack! I am too cheap to actually buy something like that when I can make it myself; just point me to the nearest hardware store! Thanks!
