Elephant Ears are hands down my favorite tropical plant. I only wish they were hardy here in CT! Here's what I do when the growing season is over so that I have the bulbs ready for next year.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Elephant Ear plant
  • Clippers
  • Shovel
  • 1 Mesh Bag (I use the kind that onions come in at the grocery store)
  • Small Amount of Dry Peat Moss
  1. Step 1

Chop down all existing foliage to the ground.

  2. Step 2

Dig up the plant's root ball and place on the soil surface. Wash all dirt off with a garden hose.

  3. Step 3

Clip back all of the roots to the bulb and leave in a sunny spot for about a day to dry off.

  4. Step 4

Once the bulb is dry, place in your mesh bag and pack (very loosely) with dry peat moss. Hang in a cool dry area in your home for the winter.
