How to earn a college degree online

A college degree is within close reach
A college degree is within close reach

If your time and lifestyle permits, you can attend traditional college. If not, you can enroll in an online college and participate in distance learning courses. If taken from an accredited school, these courses will give you the same college credit as a traditional college, but you can do it from home, and often, work at your own pace.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet Access
  • Persistence
  1. Step 1

Make sure that you have either your high school diploma or your GED. You will need to choose an accredited online college that provides the distance learning courses that you require. Depending on the school that you choose, you may be able to register for college classes online or you may be required to go into the school to complete your college registration.

  2. Step 2

Once you have chosen the online distance learning college that you want, double check to make sure that the college offers the exact courses that you require. If so, you're ready to begin. Whether you pay for college in cash or by using financial aid assistance, most accredited online colleges are willing to accept both options.

  3. Step 3

Begin your internet course. Don't be fooled into thinking that because your studies will be conducted in the comfort of your own home that it will be easy. Many people who have attended college online have found it to be equally or more challenging than traditional school. There is no teacher to push you; and you are required to keep track of your own coursework. Your ability to effectively monitor your studies and your level of understanding will be paramount to succeeding.

  4. Step 4

Allow yourself plenty of time to study and complete your coursework. You will need a quiet place that is free of distractions so that you can do the best work you possibly can. If you have questions during your course, don't hesitate to contact your instructor online to ask for assistance. Some colleges have in person tutoring that you can elect to participate in if you need further assistance.

  5. Step 5

In most accredited online colleges, such as Rio Salado College, you will be required to come into the school and take both midterm and final exams to ensure that you are the one completing the coursework, and that you have a good understanding of the material that you are learning. These exams are proctored, and conducted just as they would be with any other college or university.

  6. Step 6

As long as you maintain satisfactory academic progress and follow the guidelines of your school, earning those credits is an attainable goal. Work hard, study hard, and everything else will fall into place. Before long, you will be proudly holding the degree of your choice in your hands. Congratulations, you did it!
