Using Ebay.com can be a lucrative venture, but it can also seem overwhelming. Here are some tips I have learned to help make selling your item on Ebay easier!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An Ebay.com account
  • A working PayPal.com account connected to a valid email
  • Some money already in your PalPal account to start
  • Anything you wish you could sell!
  1. Step 1

Go directly to the "Sell" section on your Ebay account, where you will find a "What's It Worth?" line; use this to type in the item you're trying to sell. This will show you if any like it have sold over the past 3 weeks, and for how much.

  2. Step 2

Next, go to the top of your screen, where it says "all categories" and search your item again. This will help you see how others have listed the same item, and for what price--you don't want to be selling your item for $20 if someone else is selling it for $.99!

  3. Step 3

Talk using pictures. The first picture of your item, if it's listed in one category--is free. USE this to your advantage! Items without pictures don't sell nearly as well, and people won't trust you. The picture price is $.15 for each additional picture (there are deals for grouping pictures, though)/additional category.

  4. Step 4

List choice features in your title; Is your item old? Crafted by a renowned artist? Is it a limited edition? Perfect condition? These are things that will catch a buyer's eye.

  5. Step 5

Make sure you utilize what options Ebay has for selling--such as a border, or sub-title. Some of the offers are expensive (I usually leave off of those, and have done fine), but even for starters, the $.10 border (they have over 60 to choose from) can make your item more appealing to the masses. It is worth the fee to get your item sold!

  6. Step 6

Use the Shipping Wizard! Ebay has, down on its shipping options section, a "Shipping Wizard"--this helps calculate how much it will cost to ship your item. Make sure you decide if you want to be shipping it only in the US, or your preferred country, or internationally.

  7. Step 7

Finally, when listing your item--give it enough time to sell; I usually use the "5 day" option. 3 usually isn't enough, and after 7, the Ebay fees change.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may not be able to give the exact weight of your item when using the Shipping Wizard. But most books/movies, etc. can be looked up online and found out. You don't have to be exact either, just in the ball-park.
  • If your item has a fault--broken piece, scratch, tear, etc.--not only list this, but picture it as well, so the buyer can see exactly what they are getting.
  • If your item doesn't seem to be in top demand right then, or you can't find it when searching--try again in a week or so, or use different words. Things change very rapidly on Ebay!
  • Most of all--be honest about your item! This will ensure positive feedback, which will help you sell other items in the future.
  • Ebay does charge a fee for every item you sell, so be sure you pay attention to side options, links, etc. that show you these things.
  • It can be time-consuming to get the hang of Ebay, so make sure you have time when you start.
