Step 1
Identify what you will be using a the prepaid credit card for. Are you planning on using your prepaid card regularly or occasionally? Identify what card features are important to you. Make a list of all the different card features you know are offered on prepaid cards and identify which features you need, which ones you want, and which ones you can do without.

Identify what you are willing to pay for a prepaid card. Make a list of all the different fees associated with applying and maintaining a prepaid card, this includes: activations fees, transaction fees, bill pay fees, cash withdrawal and balance inquiry fees. Go through your list and write down ideal and maximum amounts that you are willing to pay for each fee.

Search for different cards using a card comparison site. Compare the cards on the site with the lists you made from the previous steps to find one that matches your ideals.
