Find the Cheapest Flights

Airline fares change multiple times per day, here's how to find the cheapest flights!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Money
  • Internet
  • Somewhere to go! :)
  1. Step 1
    Plan Ahead

    Plan Ahead

When traveling by airplane, plan as far in advance as you can. You'll generally get the cheapest flights this way. Begin shopping for airfare as soon in advance as you are able to and when you find a great deal, snatch it up.

  2. Step 2

Search and Compare the Cheapest Flights Online.

Don't just stick with Travelocity or Priceline, try going to Kayak, Farechase or Farecast. They have great search features allowing hundreds of flights to be searched and they also tell you whether it's a good idea to buy now or to wait. They have predictions on whether the price of the plane ticket will go up or down over the next several days.

  3. Step 3

Figure out the Best Travel Day for the Cheapest Flights.

For instance, try to travel on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Flights tend to be the cheapest on those days, with Fridays and weekends being more expensive.

  4. Step 4

    One Way Tickets.

Have you ever tried searching for 2 1-way tickets? Sometimes you can get some amazing deals by purchasing tickets this way. A lot of times you can find one way flights for $99 or less.

  5. Step 5

    Nearby Airports.

Flying into the major airports is always going to be more expensive. Normally the websites that allow you to search for the cheapest flights will have the option available to check "nearby airports" that you can fly into and get a better price on your ticket.

  6. Step 6

Check with the Airlines Website for the Cheapest Flights.

Sometimes airlines themselves will have some great unadvertised deals on their websites. Southwest Airlines is one that doesn't seem to show up in a lot of airline ticket search sites so they'd be a great airline to try by just going directly to their website.

  7. Step 7

    Packaged Deals.

Sometimes packaged deals, including airfare + hotel + rental car are even cheaper than buying just airfare alone. Always shop around to find the cheapest flights.

  8. Step 8

For the Cheapest Flights Internationally, try Skyscanner or Trabber.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always be on the lookout for deals!
  • Always check the airline's website prior to making a purchase to make sure you're getting the cheapest flight!
