How to Be A Good First Date

Following these simple steps will ensure an enjoyable first date.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Positive Attitude
  • Open-mind
  1. Step 1

Keep your expectations low. You will be pleasantly surprised if the date goes well, and no disappointments if it doesn’t. This works wonders for blind dates, Internet dating and also curbs nervousness.

  2. Step 2

Open-mind. If your date would like to switch venues or try a different cuisine, be agreeable. Now is not the time to assert your displeasure with his restaurant choice. After all, he is paying for this experience.

  3. Step 3

Sincerity. No need to play games. There’s nothing to lose on a first date. This is the time to let your date see the person your friends and family see. Opening the window just a peek allows him to determine if he’d like to get to know you. Don’t overdo the compliments, or be too assertive.

  4. Step 4

Acceptance. Accept your date for who he is. If you find you’re not interested, be gracious of his time. Do not insult your date by offering to pay.

  5. Step 5

Listen. Practice active listening skills. Shake your head in agreement. Focus on your date and not the day’s frustrations, or the laundry list of chores waiting at home.

  6. Step 6

Ask Questions. Ask clarifying questions to show you’re listening. Keep the conversation light and friendly. The first date is not the time to determine if he’s marriage material, a good father or have a heated debate about politics.

  7. Step 7

Smile. Keep a pleasant demeanor. Soften your eyes and allow the happiness to shine through. Create an inviting and comfortable environment for sharing communication.

  8. Step 8

Make Eye contact. Look up often when speaking and listening. Do not stare in a confrontational way or make your date uncomfortable.

  9. Step 9

Flirt. Subtle flirtation when appropriate is acceptable. Show your softer, sexier side by lowering your eyes and chin, tilting your head or tucking your hair behind your ears. Make your date feel as if you’re the only two in the room.

  10. Step 10

Less is More. Don’t overdo the makeup, hair, dress. If you know where you’re going, dress appropriately (no short skirts and heels for a sporting event). Wear clothes that are flattering and comfortable…it’s impossible to listen when all you can think about are your aching feet inside those “killer” shoes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Just remember to be yourself.
  • Confidence not arrogance attracts the opposite sex.
