Get Cheap Books

Love reading but not the price of books? Here are step by step directions on how to get cheap books.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The best way to get cheap books is to use the library. If your library does not have the book you want, ask if they can request it from another library.

  2. Step 2

Become a book reviewer. Top book reviewers at Amazon are offered a number of free books daily from publishing companies and authors. You can also get free books and possibly paid to review them through reviewing companies and other media that need book reviews. Two of the big reviewing houses are; Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly.

  3. Step 3

Yard sales and thrift stores are a super source for cheap books. Hit up yard sales at the end of the sale and offer a low price for all of the remaining books. Most sellers will be happy to get the books out of their home and into yours. Also check used book stores for cheap books.

  4. Step 4

Shop at Amazon for substantial discounts on the retail price of books.
You can also purchase used books from dealers at Amazon, just be sure to factor in the shipping fees to determine if it is a good deal or not. Amazon offers free super saver shipping on most items, but you will have to pay Amazon dealers shipping fees. Amazon is a great place to find cheap books.

  5. Step 5

Many bookstores have free rewards programs. Join the rewards card program (if available) at your local bookseller and sign up for the mailing list for coupons.

  6. Step 6

Join at the Free cashback shopping site listed below (see resources). Current discounts include cashback at a number of book sellers; Barnes & Noble, Borders, Walmart, Abebooks, Alibris etc. and a $5 sign on bonus.

  7. Step 7

When possible use a credit card that offers cash back when making your book purchases.

Tips & Warnings
  • Prices for books at a retail store can be substantially higher than shopping online.
  • Some booksellers charge a fee for their rewards programs. Decide if the discounts are worth it.
