Learn how to covert a picture, or image to black and white, grayscale.

Things You'll Need:

  • Photoshop
  1. Step 1

    To begin, let's open up Photoshop. I am using version CS3, but I believe most versions are similar for this. Now that Photoshop is open, Go to File, Open and browse to your photo you want to edit. Or simply drag and drop the file into Photoshop.

  2. Step 2

    Now, there's two ways you can adjust the black and white settings. The easiest way is to go to Image at the top menu, then Mode/Grayscale. Photoshop will ask if you want to discard your color information. Choose Discard. Your picture now is Black and White.

  3. Step 3

    Another way you can have more options and be more detailed. Once your photo is open, go to Image/Adjustments/Black&White. Now you can alter various tones to your liking.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you want to save your picture, but not overwrite your original, choose File/Save As. Rename the picture, choose the location you want to save the file, and click ok.
