Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • sympathy card
  • blue or black ink pen
  • envelope
  1. Step 1

    Acknowledge the loss. Use a short introduction such as "I was deeply saddened when I learned about ______'s passing"

  2. Step 2

    Show your condolences. This is when you let the loved ones know that you are thinking of them in their time of need.

  3. Step 3

    Add something personal, such as a short story, or a line describing what kind of person the deceased was.

  4. Step 4

    If the person suffered from a disease, acknowledge it. Acknowledge that the deceased is no longer suffering.

  5. Step 5

    Offer your help or services. Be specific and sincere.

  6. Step 6

    End with an appropriate and sincere closing phrase.

  • Be sensitive
  • Don't add in details of how the person passed.
  • Don't talk about anything negative, such as debts or grudges.
  • Don't be dramatic
