Good thoughts in this article; you can also have a programmable electric timer installed on your hot water heater. You can set it to come on twice a day when you use it most. If there is an emergency, you can always manually turn it on. Also, wrapping your hot water heater in a blanket (they sell them) really helps too. Both these will save you substantial $ on your utility bill.
